Dying Matters is welcoming Dr Martha Jo Atkins to Aotearoa New Zealand for open conversations about death and dying. Through stories, practical guidance and space for questions, we’ll explore how to talk about dying and support the people we love.

MEET OUR GUEST SPEAKER
Dr Martha Jo Atkins
Dr Martha Jo Atkins is a teacher, author, speaker and death doula who helps people better understand dying and the experiences around it.
Her early work in children’s hospitals and years supporting bereaved children and families shaped her compassionate, direct approach. She is the author of Signposts of Dying, developed the Map of Dying™ and leads Dying School™.
She brings decades of experience, storytelling and practical insight to conversations many of us have never been taught how to have.

The programme will be relevant to individuals and families, caregivers, death doulas, health and palliative care teams, counsellors, social workers, chaplains, funeral professionals, aged care providers and anyone wanting to feel more informed and less afraid around death and dying.

Yes. The two talks will cover different topics. You can come to either one or attend both.

The talks are separate 90-minute sessions. The one-and-a-half-day programme offers more time to explore end-of-life work in depth. We’ll share its full content and format when they’re confirmed.
